Weekend update

June 30th, 2009

So the lan party last weekend was great. Got in at 5 and gamed til 2 then got up and ran and got back to the rig at 11 and gamed til 2 then got up at 9 and gamed til 11 am and packed up and headed home.

Then visited Ashley and Derek with Juli since Ashley was in hospital recovering from her surgery. She seemed to be doing good. Hopefully out this week.

Games: We played a lot of TF2 and UT2004. We also played Demigod. It was pretty darn cool. It is very DOTA like and well crafted. Definitely going to try to play some more against computers to buff up for next lan.

Hockey was good. Played a team we knew we were going to beat and while it was a little rough in the start we played strong and won 6-0. I had two assists and several people complimented me on my game. And I got a lot of corrections. Going to see what I can do next game to up that. But that isn’t til next week.

This week got a plan for my workouts so for I am 2 for 2. I ran and swam last night. Did 5 minute walk then 25 minute run for 2.7 miles. Then I was supposed to do 4×400 yards but did 400-300-200-150-100 instead. I think on Wednesday when I have more time and haven’t run right before. I am going to do a ladder up, starting at 50 and going to 400 and try to keep them all under minute for each 50 yard set.

I got weights and biking tonight. Going to do upper body today but light just to remind my upper body it has muscles. Since I am going to be swimming tomorrow, I don’t want to go too much and then not be able to work cardio.

I hit 229 today. Which is lower than my average for April so I have turned back the clock two months. I am going to keep working the food and the exercise combo. Juli is beating me currently according to our percentages. So I got to keep the pedal down and conscious of what I am doing.

I got a run wednesday morning and friday morning. Then on saturday I am doing the Lake Forest 5k. I am going to try to get under 31 minutes which is going to be a stretch goal but we shall see. Then I got the Camp Pendleton Triathlon in a month. Hoping for a kick ass time on that. I am working on distance though now so I can do the olympic in the spring.


Ahh the Game is the thing

So Juli and I have a biggest loser competition going. I am looking forward to kicking her ass. I haven’t ever “dieted” so it is going to be an interesting two months. On the plus side I have the 4th of July run as well as my camp Pendleton triathlon during this time.

So I am going to watch what I eat and just go hard core on training. It should work out very nicely.

I ran the short loop today. I was slower than before but then again it is my first day out. Tomorrow I am going to do two short loops. I hope to finish in under 40 min we shall see since it is probably only 2.5 miles or so, but my speed goes way down when I hit the uphill. I checked today and I was probably going 4.5 mph maybe 4.2 since it seemed really slow. Gotta get that part faster. I am thinking of all sorts of goals since I got a bunch of metrics with the Garmin Forerunner. (I love gadgets)

Tonight is swim. I downloaded the Olympic Triathlon training schedule from the Desert Toyota Triathlon site. I am thinking of adjusting it a bit. It has running 3x a week, swimming 4x a week and biking 2x a week. I am going to try to up my running to 4x a week swim to 3x a week and bike 2 to 3x a week since my bikes are usually longer than they suggest. I also plan on adding weights into the mix somewhere. hehe.

I am doing good so far but we are only a day into the competition. Next monday should be a good decider.

-Hockey was awesome on sunday night. Well not completely awesome. I had a pretty good game. There were a couple mistakes like not following up on my defense guy when our defense committed to O. But I got the first goal on a nice backhander that rebounded and then I finished it off with another backhander. Just like the clinic I went to. I felt pretty good on my new skates and with my new stick. Oooh yeah.


Exercising

June 17th, 2009

So friday I ran my loop the whole way. From the stop sign in front of my complex down lake forest to Pauling down Pauling to Portola and then back up Lake forest to my complex stop sign. It was the first time I have done that in the 5 times I have run it. It was a big gain I think. However I haven’t run since.

I started the Adult Hockey clinic on monday. It has wiped me out for the past two nights. Well that and waking up today at 5 to drop Juli off at LAX.

My plan is to see how I am feeling tomorrow and maybe just walk it or jog it and then run it on Friday. I got to get a swim in at some point. Haven’t done that in like two weeks. Dang life interfering with exercise.

I have gotten through my bday bonanza and only “gained” 3 lbs. not horrible. I still have to work to get below April’s monthly average. But it is all a process.

I think I can get to my 10k by August. I will be doing the 4th of July 5k in Lake Forest which should be nice and flat. I am going to try for a under 31 min time. Hopefully I will be running that well we shall see since I have taken this week pretty much off and I only have two weeks to go.

My goal after doing the little loop a couple of times is to do the whole thing again i.e. two loops. Once I get good at that I’ll do a greater loop where I go down Pauling but the keep going on Portola til Bake. I know the loop I am doing now is 1.4 miles. I think the longer loop is 2.2 or so. I guess I will find out next week. My garmin rocks at giving me feedback on my runs. Looking forward to tomorrow morning and seeing how it goes.

I am going to start adding swimming in the evening and then keep my weekend bikes going. Should put me in good shape for the triathlon in August. I still got to get a wetsuit. Not sure if I should go whole hog with a tri wetsuit or just chill with a surfing wetsuit.


Thoughtful post

Review of Whos got your back

In the interest of having a thoughtful post I figured, I would respond to the aforementioned review.

It says on average a person only has 2 confidants and 25 percent of people have none. Which I find interesting. I counted up and I got 3 or 4 pending on the level of conversation. It is interesting that as unsocial as I am that I have so many. Partly that is family but the other part is I guess I just have one or two friends that I would trust for anything up to and including hiding the bodies.

I guess it is all a matter of trust and working towards getting trust in a relationship. Tricky but doable.


Swimming

It is interesting that I have a very hard time joining swimming and running together in the evening. I also have a hard time training before work. if I worked at say 10 I think I could do it but getting to work at 730 is just a wee bit too early for me to exercise first.

Anyway, I am using the toyota desert triathlon advanced training to get my body ready to do the olympic distance. I figure I’ll train to that even though I have two sprint distances left this year.

I started with a fitness test last night. I did 100 yards in 89 seconds. I then used this to figure out what my 70% effort would be as well as 80 and 90 percent. The goal then was to do 4 sets of 4×50s with the first at 70 percent then increasing to 100 percent on the last. 15 seconds between reps and 1 min between sets.

So while I only did 900 yards total yesterday, I was exhausted. And didn’t do the follow up run. I think it is just going to be a matter of getting used to doing two a days. I am going to do bike and run tonight. We shall see if I can get through that work out. It only has two runs currently in the workout while there are 4 swims. I need to up my runs cause I have a goal of 4 miles this month and one more mile each month on top of that until I get to 6.

I need to make sure I spend a little bit of time cleaning my bike. I went to Aliso Canyon to ride with some friends. The hills are killer. I definitely have room to improve, but I am sure it will happen.
